シャッターが閉じる。一瞬は取り戻すことのできない過去となる -- すでに私たちの手から滑り落ちてしまった。写真は私たちの記憶が繋ぎ止められた場所を象徴する。死んでいるのに生きているように見える表現 -- ピンで留められた蝶、ほこりっぽい展示ケースの中でかすかに光るその羽。カメラの暗闇の中に埋葬される。

それは言葉のない記録 -- 言葉は必要ない。1枚の絵をほんの一瞬見た途端、観客と写真家は一つになる。当然ながら、この心の結合は不完全なものだ。観察者はその写真を取り巻く状況について洞察を持たない。それ故に、自分の一連の経験だけを使って理解しなければならない。しかし -- その過程で、見知らぬ2人の間の空間にただ存在しているだけの世界が垣間見えるかもしれない。理解不能であると同時に本能的に共感できるメッセージを受け取る。

この世界、この薄く切り取られた一片、このメッセージ -- テクノロジーを拒絶し、「いいね」も「シェア」もできないもの -- それは意のままに思い出すことのできる体験ではない。一つひとつ鑑賞を続けるうちに反響はどんどん弱まり、ついには薄暗く輝く光の糸となって私たちの記憶の変わりゆく布地へと織り込まれて行く

The shutter closes. A moment becomes an irretrievable past -- has already slid from our grasp. The picture represents the point upon which our recall is anchored; a dead but seemingly alive representation -- a pinned butterfly, its wings glimmering faintly within the dusty showcase. Entombed within the darkness of the camera.

It is a record without words -- it does not need words. Upon viewing a picture, for a brief moment, audience and photographer become one. Naturally, this joining of minds is an incomplete one. The observer lacks insight into the circumstances surrounding the picture and thus has to understand it utilizing his set of experiences alone. But -- in the process he may glimpse upon a world that only exists in the void between two strangers; receives a message that is simultaneously incomprehensible and yet intuitively understood.

This world, this thin slice, this message -- defies technology, can not be "liked" or "shared" -- is not an experience that can be recalled at will. For each successive viewing will render the echo fainter and fainter until it finally is a dimly glimmering thread woven into the changing fabric of our memory.
